I came from a middle-class family and had big dreams to be rich and successful. I also dreamt of accomplishing great things, amongst them a strong inclination to touch lives and be a philanthropist.
We migrated to Singapore in 1996 in search for better job opportunities. I was an IT Consultant while my husband was in the manufacturing sector. We worked hard and had hectic schedules, which often left us exhausted and uninspired at the end of the day. Our lives became dull and we were not enjoying ourselves. Soon after, our son was born. At the same time, we were pursuing our Master of Technology programmes at the National University of Singapore. During that period, I contemplated staying home to look after our children.
We started off by using Amway’s products and its superior quality impressed us. We realized that this is a legitimate business with immense potential. I had the flexibility to work from home while looking our kids and was very thrilled about the prospect of an inheritable income. Nevertheless, the road to success is never smooth. There were obstacles to overcome and changes to make. People skills are required to build the business and it was a personal challenge for an introvert like me. Approaching and talking to strangers from all walks of life was out of my comfort zone. The rejections were plenty but we persevered and reminded ourselves of the pot of gold at the end. We worked hard, encouraged and supported each other.
Today, we are living our dreams and provided the best to our families. We have acquired a global network of lifelong friends and fulfilled our goal in touching the lives of others. We wish to dedicate our success to our wonderful team of warriors who kept the dream alive.
